La Botte... yesterday
The La Botte Restaurant boasts one of the oldest management in Sicily. Salvatore Cascino has started the activity since 1962, transforming the old "Wine Retail Shop" of 1929 from a family-run little restaurant into a Top Restaurant.
The two brothers Salvatore and Francesco Paolo Cascino were already well known in Palermo because of the reputation and awards gained in the field of gastronomy. With the new restaurant they succeeded in making Sicilian cookery famous not only in Italy but also outside the Country.
As time goes by Maurizio took the place of F.sco Paolo Cascino in the management of the restaurant.
In 1982, while Pope Giovanni Paolo II was visiting the city of Palermo, the "Maestri Cascino" had the honour to cook for him.
Since 1962 the two brothers started creating new recipes. Among them the soft ice-cream called "Alì Pascià" became soon very popular by means of professional teaching.
In 1985 during a gastronomic meeting between Italy and France, set in Lyon, Francesco Paolo Cascino, who was among those attending the meeting, was praised by Paul Bocuse (master of the Nouvelle Cuisine).
In 1986 "La Botte" was chosen by BBC to film a piece of a documentary about Mediterranean cookery. This documentary was later telecast in Europe, USA, and Canada.
In 1993 even the RAI (Italian Television) used the restaurant "la Botte" to film some cooking lessons, which were later broadcasted abroad.
In 1994 the most important broadcasting station in Boston (Massachusetts) made a video to promote Sicily through its wines and typical cookery.
In 1996 Channel 4 UK filmed the preparation and the service of a typical Sicilian lunch.
In 1997 and 2002 Salvatore and Maurizio Cascino were charged by the "Casino de la Vallée" to carry out two Sicilian Gala Performance in St Vincent (Aosta).
In 2001 the UNO General Secretary Mr. Kofi Annan appreciated the Cascino's cuisine at "La Botte" Restaurant.
The restaurant "La Botte" is mentioned in the best national and international guide books. Nowadays it may be considered among the most famous and exclusive sites in Sicily.
The Restaurant and its Cuisine
"La Botte" is set in a beautiful area, directly in contact with nature, away from the traffic and the noise of city life.
Inside it has got a big fireplace which creates an informal, warm, cosy atmosphere, but the restaurant is also famous for its elegance, delicious food and excellent service.
(During the 60's "La Botte" set the fashion to show appetizers, rich in dish variety and colours, on a sideboard offering a buffet service, in the south of Italy.)
Now You can choose, among the gastronomic specialities, from a wide range of local dishes. Rich appetizers, fresh fish, meat and delicate sweets offer clients a journey back in time amid the smells, tastes and colours of Sicilian traditions.
Something about our Clients
"La Botte" is the ideal place for those who like to rediscover delicate, refined and genuine tastes, together with supreme comfort in a friendly and relaxed ambience.
